The Los Angeles Chapter welcomes eight new GRAMMY U Campus Representatives: Aja Adeagbo (Santa Monica College), Chandelor Armstrong (California State University, Northridge), Carl Cartagena (Fullerton College), James Castaneda (USC), Kristie Dixon (Citrus College), Marc Horton (the Art Institute of Los Angeles), Stefan Lim (Azusa Pacific University) and Tom Morgan (Golden West College). Along with returning Los Angeles Chapter GRAMMY U Representative Daniel Rojas, our student representatives for 2008–2009 look forward to a successful year.
GRAMMY U Network is a unique and fast-growing community of college
students who are pursuing a career in the recording industry. The Recording
Academy created GRAMMY U to help prepare college students for their careers
in the music industry through networking, educational programs and performance
opportunities. GRAMMY U is designed to enhance students' current academic curriculum
with access to recording industry professionals to give an "out of classroom"

A free benefit providing members with the opportunity to view special advance screenings of
some of Hollywood's most anticipated films. As an added bonus, Los Angeles Chapter film screenings
also feature special post-screening discussions with those who worked on the film, such as composers,
music supervisors, and producers. The Los Angeles Chapter has hosted screenings for such musically
inspired films as Dreamgirls, The Pursuit Of Happyness and An Inconvenient
Truth. All Los Angeles Chapter film screenings are announced via e-mail. If you are not yet on the

A quarterly networking series designed to congregate members of the Los Angeles Chapter. Taking place at
popular nightspots such as the W Hotel Westwood, the Standard Hotel, Downtown L.A. and Skybar at the
Mondrian Hotel in Hollywood, Calif., In The Mix
events simply afford members an opportunity to mingle with each other, the Los Angeles Chapter elected
leadership, and the music community at-large in a comfortable environment. In addition to its outreach
to the local community, the Los Angeles Chapter is also committed to establishing and sustaining a positive
presence for The Recording Academy in West Coast music communities.
The GRAMMY Foundation cultivates the understanding, appreciation and advancement of the contribution of
recorded music to American culture — from the artistic and technical legends of the past to the
still unimagined musical breakthroughs of future generations of music professionals. The Foundation
offers programs and activities that engage the music industry and cultural community as well as the
general public, and works in partnership year-round with The Recording Academy to bring national
attention to important issues such as the value and impact of music and arts education and the urgency

The Los Angeles Chapter of The Recording Academy holds the distinction of being
the organization's oldest and largest Chapter. In fact, The Recording Academy was
founded at Hollywood's legendary Brown Derby restaurant in 1957. Today, the Chapter,
located within The Academy's national headquarters in Santa Monica, has grown to
more than 4,800 members and remains in the heart of the world's entertainment capital.
The Los Angeles Chapter counts among its members many of the world's most prominent
and important musicians and record industry executives, whose contributions to the
rich diversity of musical expression are immeasurable. Their

Los Angeles Chapter a generous pool of resources from which to draw valuable knowledge
and participation.
Through its extensive program of initiatives and member benefits, the Los Angeles
Chapter continues to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to not only serving the
music industry, but also to connecting with the community at-large. Focused on music
and arts education, and their importance to the development of the next generation
of artists and community leaders, the Los Angeles Chapter strives to foster an ongoing
dialogue between community centers, learning institutions, and music organizations.

The Chapter has embarked on an ambitious, diverse slate of activities and programs
to accomplish these goals. Throughout the year, the Chapter presents educational
and professional development programs aimed at educating industry professionals
and the local community as a whole.
Each of these events feature guest speakers and participants of the highest order,
including prominent managers, entertainment attorneys, label executives, producers
and musicians. In addition, the Los Angeles Chapter produces social and networking
events and maintains a presence at industry conferences such as National Association
of Music Merchants (NAMM), International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE), Emerging
Artists & Technology in Music (EAT'M), Urban Network and Audio Engineering
Society (AES).
The Los Angeles Chapter is also committed to fostering the education and growth
of tomorrow's industry leaders through its internship program. The Chapter internship
program offers a rich educational experience for college students preparing for
careers in the music business.
